Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee has put, at the forefront of his campaign, illegal immigration issues. But according to a new report, her wife Melania Trump has been working in the United States before obtaining a work visa and earned illegally $20,000.
According to the Associated Press, while she was on the B1/B2 visitor visa in 1996 in the United States, she made an earning of $20,000 for 10 modeling jobs over seven weeks. The news outlet cites detailed contracts, related documents and accounting ledgers from 20 years ago in their reporting. The B1/B2 visa gave Melania the right to stay in the United States. And allowed her to look for the work but not to involve in the paid work in the US. Melania, released a statement on Oct. 5 through the attorney of immigration Michael J. Wildes, confirming she visited the United States from Slovenia on August 27, 1996. She also admitted that she pursued a B1/B2 visitor visa. However, until nearly two months later, she didn’t obtain the work visa.

Wildes wrote, “The U.S. Embassy in Slovenia therefore, shortly on October 18, 1996, issued Mrs. Trump her H1-B visa. This category of visa which authorizes employment as a model in the US. After that Mrs. Trump between, October 1996 and 2001, was consistently issued five H1-B visas in total. At this point, she became a green card holder or a lawful permanent resident.” Melania, however, received the payment for the work between September 10 and October 15 according to the documents provided to the AP – therefore making the income earned in an illegal way. After reviewing the source material, Wildes did issue the statement to the AP – which according to them included accounting documents, a management agreement signed by Melania from MIP (Metropolitan International Management) and ledgers.
“These documents, which have not been authenticated, including the related passport stamps, do not reflect our records,” Wildes told the AP. The AP said he didn’t further answered or elaborated the additional questions for clarification.

During the bitter presidential race, this is not the first time the immigration status of Melania Trump is raising questions at her. While giving a speech for her husband on Thursday Melania Trump also talked about coming to the US. “I desired to follow my dream, as a young entrepreneur. I wanted to live in a place where opportunity and freedom were in good amount. So, of course, I came here. It was a true blessing to work and live in America – but I desired something more. I wanted to be a true American.”
